OPEN GARDENS + SCARECROW REVISED OPENING TIME 12 NOON – 10th & 11th June

Our very popular ‘Open Gardens’ event returns once again and this year in combination with the equally popular Scarecrow Competition. Something for all ages. From 12am to 6pm each day.

We will have up to 12 delightful gardens on show and separately a similar number of scarecrows dotted around the village. The theme for the Scarecrows is characters from children’s books.. The public entry price for the gardens is a one-off charge of £6 per adults (children under 16 free). The Scarecrows are free for all to see around the village and children will be given a form to rank the best ones and if they place them in the same order as chosen by the judges they will get a small prize.

Tickets for the Open Gardens will be available from the Church each day where a map and guide to each garden will be given out showing the location of each garden and a brief description, along with a Scarecrow ranking form.  Refreshments and cakes will also be on sale in the church during the afternoon.

All gardens are open to the public on a voluntary basis by kind permission of the owners. Please respect their wishes as you view their delightful gardens. Please keep children under control and note that regrettably no dogs are allowed in the gardens.

There is no charge to enter the Scarecrow competition but participants will need to register to be included in the competition.

 

YELLOW TRAFFIC PARKING CONES IN CHURCH STREET

THIS IS TO CLARIFY THE REASON FOR THE YELLOW TRAFFIC CONES WHICH HAVE BEEN STRATEGICALLY PLACED IN CHURCH STREET ON A SEMI PERMANENT BASIS AND ARE NOT TO BE REMOVED.

THE PARISH COUNCIL PUT A LOT OF WORK INTO ARRANGING THE REROUTING OF THE NO. 18 BUS SO THAT IT SERVED STRATTON AUDLEY DAILY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THOSE RESIDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER FORMS OF TRANSPORT.

PARKING PROBLEMS IN CHURCH STREET CAUSED THE BUS TO BE BLOCKED ON OCCASIONS LATE LAST YEAR WHICH POTENTIALLY THREATENED THE SERVICE.   AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH THE COMPANY TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AREAS NO PARKING CONES WERE PLACED AT TWO CORNER AREAS TO ASSIST EASE OF ACCESS THROUGH THE VILLAGE.

THE SET ON THE CORNER NEAR THE PUB HAS REMAINED IN PLACE AND HAS HELPED KEEP ACCESS CLEAR. HOWEVER THE SET BY THE CORNER CLOSE TO THE CHURCH HAS BEEN REMOVED ANONYMOUSLY BY SOMEONE NOW ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS, WHO PRESUMABLY DOES NOT APPRECIATE THE IMPORTANCE OF LEAVING THESE CONES IN PLACE.

THE BUS DOES HAVE DIFFICULTY SQUEEZING THROUGH THIS PART OF THE ROAD AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE KEEP ACCESS FREE ESPECIALLY ON DAYS WHEN THE CHURCH IS BEING USED FOR EVENTS. SO WE WOULD ASK ALL CAR OWNERS TO CONSIDER TRAFFIC CONGESTION WHEN CHOOSING WHERE TO PARK.

ANYONE WHO WISHES TO OBJECT TO THESE TRAFFIC CONES SHOULD IN THE FIRST INSTANCE CONTACT THE PARISH COUNCIL TO MAKE THEIR CASE AND DISCUSS THEIR OBJECTIONS OPENLY.

PLEASE HELP BY SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE PARISH COUNCIL TO KEEP TRAFFIC FLOWING THROUGH THE VILLAGE AT ALL TIMES. THANK YOU.
