Road Leaf Sweeping Wednesday 7th December

This is to let everyone in the village know that we have arranged for Cherwell District Council to sweep the roads of Stratton Audley on Wednesday 7th December from 8am.  It was originally 30th November but the lorry broke down and the date had to be moved back one week.

A clean-up at this time  of year is particularly important with so many fallen leaves. If you are able, please sweep as much into the gutters, in advance for the lorry to sweep up.

It would be greatly appreciated if cars parked on the streets could be moved for a short time so that the road sweeping lorry has clear access to the gutters. On previous occasions where we have coordinated our efforts it has worked very well with cars being moved for a short period and other put onto the grass verges.

Thanks for your continued cooperation.

Another Sweeping Success

Yet another successful road sweeping day was carried out in the village on 11th August thanks to the Parish Council coordinating its efforts with CDC to ensure all cars were removed from the streets. This time the District Council sent a road team as well as the sweeper lorry and they did a great job. So enthusiastic were that that  they carried out some work on the previous afternoon which did surprise a few people.

Many thanks to Cherwell District Council and all who took the trouble to move their vehicles – which was virtually everyone on this occasion.

As you will see they even trimmed the ivy on the wall in Church Street and the hounds from the kennels who just happened to come by thought that was nothing to be sniffed at !!!

TOMBOLA PRIZES REQUIRED FOR FOOD, BEER & MUSIC FESTIVAL

Please donate any new unwanted gifts such as beauty products, chocolates, wine, beer, toys and books to help support our festival.

Donations should be dropped off in the church on 13/14th and 20th and 21st May. There will be a table at the back of the church marked tombola donations. Thank you.

YOUR VILLAGE NEEDS YOU!

Much planning is going into organising the Food, Beer & Music Festival in the village on 4th June by a small number of people, and we really need more people to come forward to help.

We estimate that we will require 30-40 part-time volunteers on the day for various jobs. There will be 2-hour shifts for all volunteers so nobody will get stuck with one task.

We need volunteers to help put out the road closure signs in the morning, set up the two Marquees from 8pm and organise and help all the street vendors as they arrive in their vehicles.

We also need people to distribute leaflets and put up posters and signage prior to the event. Also to sell tickets for the prize draw prior to the event

It is a big undertaking from which we hope to raise considerable money for a number of charities and the Church Porch Restoration Fund. So please help us make this day a great success.

Road Sweeping 6th April

As notified by the Parish Council, the roads were once again swept in Stratton Audley, today Wednesday 6th April, and Harry the driver spent a couple of hours sweeping each of the principle roads in the village several times and in a few cases waiting for some cars to be moved. On this occasion more cars remained on the streets than on previous occasions with about 12 vehicles being noted of which Church Street was the most affected.
Thanks to everyone who moved their cars and made for cleaner streets. We have been told that we are one of the few villages who coordinate with the district council and it is much appreciated.

FOOD & MUSIC FESTIVAL UPDATE- Saturday June 4th 2016

This event is a must date for your diary and we are looking forward to welcoming many people from the surrounding area and villages in the Shelswell Benefice to an outstanding fun day for all the family with free entrance throughout the day. It starts at 11am and finishes at 6pm.

We will be closing Church Street between the Red Lion Pub and the Church of St Mary and St Edburga for the duration of the event. There will be some 30 food and beverage stall holders, a mini beer festival with 12 beer and cider casks on sale and live music throughout the day with a mixture of Country, 60’s revival and two permanences from the well known Bletchingdon Silver Band. There’ll be hot dogs and burgers, a hog roast cooked in the street and tea and cakes in the church.  Activities for children such as a bouncy castle, and a professional face painter sponsored by Bicester Village plus other games. There’s also a major prize draw and a surprise celebration for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The event will raise money for the church porch restoration fund, since the church importantly acts as our village hall, together with nominated local charities.   We already have support from a number of local businesses including funding from Finders Keeper, Thomas Merrifield and Bicester Heritage and Bicester Village and would be interested to hear from anyone else who’d like to participate, as a food stall holder (£25 per pitch), or by giving an item for the tombola or prize draw or simply by volunteering some time or other help.

PLEASE HELP MAKE THIS DAY, A DAY TO REMEMBER. Just say YES and get involved.

New Tarmac Path Bicester Road

Following on from the hard work by councillors and the community last year in cutting back the path on the Bicester Road and a further request to Oxfordshire County Council to tarmac it, we are delighted that they managed to find some money to carry out the work at the end of February. It would seem that they were impressed by our efforts to improve the path and decided to make it one of their priorities.

Thanks. Great job.

Thames Water to attend PC Meeting – READ THE FULL STORY IN THE MINUTES

We are bringing to your attention, that four representatives from Thames Water will be attending our next meeting to address the issues concerning the pumping station in Launton Road.

As many residents will know this has been the subject of on-going problems for many years, usually when there has been heavy rain. The rain floods into the road drains and then onwards into the sewers. The result being that the pumping station cannot cope and flooding occurs mainly in the Launton Road, Mill Road and Church Street. Some residents experience problems in their houses and gardens with waste water backing up in their drains.

Thames Water are usually very responsive and have regularly attempted to resolve the problems but these short term measures do not prevent the problem returning each year.

They have agreed to come and discuss the issue and what can done about it and anyone interested is encourage to attend the meeting.

Next Parish Council Meeting 29 February

The next Parish Council meeting, scheduled for the 3rd February cannot take place due to the absence of three councillors. It is now scheduled for  29th February (yes it is a leap year!) at the usual time of 7pm in the Red Lion. As a result the following meeting scheduled for 2nd March will be cancelled. All are always welcome to attend and we hope to have a representative from Thames Water coming along to discuss the recent flooding issues in the village.
