On-line Village Carole Service

An online Carol Service for the Benefice will be broadcast at 6pm today (via Shelswell News Facebook Group and the Shelswell Parishes YouTube Channel) This will have been recorded in advance in Stratton Audley Church.

Church Services

Family Communion will be at 10am  (and 11.15am in Godington) on Christmas Day.  There won’t be a ‘live’ Carol Service as people aren’t allowed to sing, but  an online Carol Service for the Benefice will be put out at 6pm on Sunday 20th December (via Shelswell News Facebook Group and the Shelswell Parishes YouTube Channel) This will have been recorded in advance in Stratton Audley Church.

 

Winter Road Sweep

The roads in the village will be swept by the district council from first thing in the morning. Please remove vehicles from the street either before or when you hear the lorry.

Remembrance Day Service

There will be no service inside the church this year but the diocese has gone to great lengths to ensure that the ceremony can take place outside in the churchyard next to the War Memorial, in a safe manner with the following rules in place. If you are planning to attend, then get there early to allow for registration.

Halloween Trail around the village

Halloween is just a week away and preparations described below are well underway, so that a safe event outdoors within the rules as laid down currently. Groups of up to six people (adults and children) need to remain within their groups and avoid mixing with other groups. Additionally social distancing rules need to be maintained and if it makes you feel more comfortable although not a legal requirement, wear a mask.

  • Kicking off at 5.30pm, there’s going to be a Spooky Pumpkin Trail from around the village visiting a number of designated village points plus outside households that are putting out sweets
  • A mobile-friendly map and the link will be available on FB next week.
  • There will be no knocking on doors so if you are putting out sweets/treats, please notify Sandra of your address so she can add you to the map
  • To make sure there are enough treats for everyone, please message to say how many children/ grandchildren/etc. will be following the trail
  • Thanks go to the team of volunteers that have agreed to carve out the Pumpkins which will be collected Friday 30th
  • Anyone wishing to donate sweets for the trail, again please message Sandra and she will collect on Friday 30th or alternatively drop in a box that will be placed outside 5 Cavendish Place.

Closure of Launton Road in the Village

The long awaited major repairs to the road in the village from the Chessnut tree by the church to just outside the village entrance on the road to Launton, are scheduled to commence on Monday 8th September and the road will be closed for 10 days.  Following on from this on Monday 22nd Church Street will be closed  for 4 working days.

This will cause major disruption. More details closer to time.

Stratton Audley Local History Society

This is a general meeting with planning for future visits, talks/presentations                            

Items under consideration for the future include potential visits to Dorchester Abbey, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh house in Northampton, Compton Verney, etc.

The Society is open to all and anyone is welcome to our meetings.

Carol Singing around the village

All welcome to come and join in the fun organised by the church wardens. Meet at the Red Lion

Sadly it is not such fun if you are homeless and that is why this year the church all donations will go to Homeless, Oxfordshire.  https://homelessoxfordshire.uk/

We are establishing a drop off point for items of warm clothing, bedding and toiletries to be taken to O’Hanlon House in January.   More details to follow.
