CHURCHYARD TIDY UP – Many hands make light work!

On Saturday 24th March Jeremy Adams, Churchwarden, will be organising a Spring Tidy-up of the churchyard from 10am onwards and he would really appreciate your help!   If you can bring tools for trimming and tidying then that would be helpful as well.   Coffee and cake will be there to help things along.   Even if you can only come for a short time then do drop in.   As they say – many hands make light work.

Any queries ahead of the day, ring Jeremy on 01869 277471.

VILLAGE FUN DAY INVITE – RSVP

VILLAGE FUN DAY IS SUNDAY 2nd JULY 2-5pm

The village fun day is free for all and organised by the community for people living in the parish plus any friends and family. Come and join your friends and neighbour’s in the field accessed via the top of Cherry Close, for an old fashioned simple village get-together at no cost to you.

The marquee will be put up and straw bales provided. As in previous years you are welcome to bring your own refreshments but this year soft drinks, wine and beer will be available plus a cake stall and ice cream.

There’ll be music throughout the afternoon orchestrated by our very own Mike Gore and organised games for children and adults to include: Musical Statues, Head & Tails, 3-Legged Races, Egg & Spoon race, Bash the Rat and of course the best of three Tug O’Wars.

Simply turn up and join in the fun.

Set up is on Sunday 2nd at 10am so we need as many volunteers as possible for an hour or two to put up the marquee

PLEASE LET US KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND THIS EVENT AND HOW MANY FAMILY/FRIENDS WILL BE WITH YOU, BECAUSE IT WILL NOT TAKE PLACE UNLESS WE HAVE ENOUGH TAKE UP.

Another Sweeping Success of the roads

Thanks to everyone who moved their cars and swept leaves out into the roads on 7th December. The best village cooperation and participation yet!

Cherwell District Council sent their road team to support the sweeper vehicle and did a great job particularly in Church Street and Cherry Street where the leaves were particularity dense. We  consider ourselves to be very lucky to get this level of attention as resources are very limited and few villages get this treatment. So thanks CDC.

A few photos showing work in progress and only a handful of cars on the roads.

Plans for new playground

As you may know the Parish Council has secured a grant from a landfill company called WREN to renovate the playground. This fund, when added to additional monies built up by the Parish Council over the last few years, mean that we have a fund of £30k to renew the surfaces and replace existing equipment (with the exception of the vintage horse and camel which will be retained and restored).

We believe most parents of children in Stratton Audley are aware and will have seen the plans but for those who have not, please find them attached. We received some very positive feedback at the Children’s Christmas party in the Red Lion on Sunday and all comments received will be given due consideration.

The selected contractor, Trevor Stewart, uses natural woods and builds the climbing frames himself. As a local man he has built many other playgrounds in the area, most recently at Hethe, but also Blackthorne, Ardley, Somerton, Steeple Aston and Middle Barton.

The grant has been secured as a result of submitting a detailed proposal in July of this year, so any changes will be of a limited nature. We have been looking carefully at the best surface to use and the general consensus is to use wood chip under the play equipment, retain the grass at the forefront of the playground and put down a limited amount of rubber mulch around a few items.

The intention is to carry out groundworks in the spring and complete the works in time for the summer.

If you have any comments please don’t hesitate to reply to this email.

Stratton Audley Food & Music Festival Saturday 4th June 2016

The CLP Group is beginning to plan a Village Food Festival to take place on 4th June 2016. Organisers are presently looking for sponsors, support in event management, stall holders and the providers of beer for a mini beer festival. The event is likely to be marketed as the Stratton Audley Food and Music festival incorporating a Scarecrow competition and the organisers hope that the whole village will participate.
